Artist’s Statement

Every painting begins with an inspiration. My inspiration comes from the beautiful desert Southwest, from animals with soulful eyes, from baby faces and weathered faces, from funky pieces of old rusted farm equipment.    I transfer an image onto my clean, white, watercolor paper and sit quietly pondering.  Colors are selected, brushes at the ready.  Then, magically, colors appear on the paper and before too long, amazingly, the painting appears. Whether I’m painting someone’s beloved pet, or their beloved, a flower or a still life, the wonder and magic pull me in.

About the Artist

watercolor artist Donna Anastasi

Donna Anastasi was born in Washington, DC, and lived in Maryland for most of her life. She ran a successful architectural design and drafting business in Maryland and recently retired to allow more time to embrace her passion for watercolor painting.  Donna and her husband bought a house in Phoenix back in 2010, and have been full-time Arizonans for a couple of years.

Donna’s wonderful watercolor journey began in 2008 with a watercolor class taught by Maryland Artist, Brenda Kidera. She continued to paint with Brenda until she moved to Arizona. Donna’s paintings were exhibited in the BWS Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition in 2010 and in 2012. Donna loves helping others understand the mysterious medium and has taught watercolor classes at the Foothills Community Foundation and Sagewood as well as teaching small private groups in her home studio.
